Student Materials: Please bring the following: -Wear cotton/natural fiber clothing and closed toe shoes -Work apron -Particle dust mask to wear while sifting enamels -Covered water bottle, no food or open drinks in the studio -The folk school has all the tools needed, but students are responsible for replacement cost of broken or lost tools. You may bring your own tools labeled with your name
School Fee & Materials: FOLK SCHOOL FEE: $30-$60, for copper and enamel, depending on quantity and size of what students make.

Description

There are multiple ways to texture copper before applying colorful enamel. Focus on creating compelling copper shapes with hammers, heat, vices, anvils, chasing, engraving, rolling mill, hydraulic press, and jeweler's saws. Then apply vibrant color to your copper canvases with powdered and liquid glass enamel. Finished pieces can be as varied as super light earrings to larger wall art and bowls. For all who enjoy a playful approach to making!

Kay Patterson learned engraving and metalsmithing from her husband, Tom, whose family owned a retail jewelry store with a full service shop. She joined Tom teaching metal classes at the Folk School in 2003 and has continued to serve as an assistant and instructor in many classes. Kay teaches enamel, combined with forging and engraving metal with a focus on using recycled metals. Kay currently divides her time among metals, enamel and fiber, mostly making things to wear and puttering around the gardens and woods.
