Student Materials: Please bring the following: NOTE: Instructor will provide project kit. - Extra fabrics (small pieces, 10” pieces are good, solids & prints) - Pearl cotton embroidery threads size #12, #8, #5, #3 can all be used (can purchase in class) - Buttons, trinkets, charms, beads - Scissors (embroidery & paper) - Sue Spargo’s “Creative Stitch Embroidery” (can purchase in class) - Lace, trims - Fabric pen, Micron Pigma pen (.05 or .08) or non-bleeding Sharpie - Pins - Pencils: regular pencil, Silver Artist Pencil or Chalk Pencil - Small sketchbook

Create your own mountaintop-vista, fabric book keepsake! The mountains are a perfect place to view beautiful scenery and the Folk School grounds are full of inspiration for this unique project. Design landscapes, use collage appliqué, and paint-dye on fabric and batting to make unusual textures. Add embroidered details on the background and incorporate hand-dyed fabrics, trims, and threads. Sewing machines are not needed for this all handwork class.

Susan Edmonson is an award-winning quiltmaker and mixed-media artist from Concord, NC, who started her artistic journey in 1981. Her specialties have included folk art, crazy-quilted purses, wall quilts, and "flower doodles." She also enjoys creating mixed-media fabric collage books and mini art quilts lavished with beading and embroidery. Susan recently appeared in a segment on the "Quilting Arts" television show, and her work has been featured in "Altered Couture" and "Sew Somerset" publications by Stampington & Co. She also teaches at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, TX. Susan encourages her students to have fun with projects while embracing new techniques.
