Description

Crankies are illustrated scrolls in boxes with attached handles that are "hand cranked" to create a moving panorama, inviting the viewer to experience the images like watching a movie. These historic storytelling devices were traditionally used to illustrate ballads sung by traveling musicians as they performed through the Appalachian mountains. Carve blocks to print smaller "personal" crankies as well as collaborate on a single long scroll to create a shared experience.

Description

Dos-à-dos–French for "back-to-back"–is a binding structure in which two separate books are bound together sharing the same back cover. Come make your own raised cord, 5 ½ by 6-inch, dos-à-dos binding with covers and papers of each book as totally different from each other, or exactly the same. Choose from various papers and if you want to sew more signatures (adding more pages), more materials can be provided.
