Make three different tape-sewn variations, including the French Link Stitch, woven tapes, and an exposed spine binding sewn on cords. Also, learn to create faux embossed covers, book cloth, mica windows, and pockets! This class is suitable for those with some book arts experience. $

Begin the journey towards beautiful metal embossing (repujado). Experiment with aluminum, copper, and pewter, creating a sampler of embossing techniques and styles suitable for display. Create a traditional, quarter bound book using your own colorful, marbled papers on the covers and leather on the spine. Begin by floating acrylic paints on a thickened bath, use an assortment of tools to make beautiful patterns, and then lay down paper to transfer your designs. Discover the beauty and versatility of mulberry paper in this immersive workshop exploring traditional Asian techniques. Joomchi–a Korean method–“felts” layers of hanji by hand into richly textured, remarkably strong paper without adhesives. Momigami–a Japanese process–kneads kozo paper with konnyaku starch to create supple, fabric-like sheets with added durability.

A paper box is a wonderful container. In the hands of an artist it can be so much more, with potential for collage, stitching, and storytelling on it's many surfaces. Learn how to make reusable patterns for boxes of your own design, how to use a variety of materials for creating your boxes, and a good number of embellishment techniques. All levels welcome; no special skills required.

Get to know the basics of letterpress printing and hand typesetting for printing your own books and broadsides. Learn to set hot lead and wood type, print large broadsides and small books, and use vintage printing presses. Add images with carved linoleum blocks, then finish the week by binding the small prints together into a book. All levels welcome.

Learn the basic and simple steps of repair and restoration using archival materials. This class is an excellent introduction for beginners as well as an opportunity for experienced binders to work on more advanced projects with instructor guidance.
