Eucalyptus leaves print in a bright beautiful color. Look for leaves–high in tannins–on the Folk School grounds that will also print nicely. Experiment with leaves and plant matter that, when bundled and simmered for a period, make wonderful leaf prints on your felt creations. Expect some physical exertion/standing.

Drawing inspiration from the organic shapes, textures, and colors found in the natural environment, explore various felting techniques, including layering color, incorporating intricate details, and creating amazing textures which capture the essence of nature. This is a welcoming and supportive environment for all skill levels. Note that rolling felt requires some physical exertion and periods of standing.

Join in on an exciting week creating natural dyes from the garden and in the dye lab. Focus on protein fibers like silk and wool, learn the basics of natural dying, and/or expand your colorful textile practice on yarn, fabric, fleece, and more! Those with previous experience will have the opportunity to deepen their skillset; great for weavers, knitters, spinners, and sewists.

Discover the age-old craft of felt making. Learn the basics of wet felting, how to use resists for sculptural and 3D forms, and using needle felting for surface decoration and embellishment. Explore the unique properties of wool felt from different sheep breeds and create felted samples to compare textures, shrinkage, and suitability for various projects. Then, craft functional and decorative items for both head and home! Requires some muscle/stamina and periods of standing. $

Embellish the matte surface of a wet felted carry-all bag you make yourself with a shiny enamel feature in this week plus weekend class. Start in the Enameling Studio to create several types of decorative closures using the limitless colors and techniques for enameling on copper. Then, move to the Wet Room Studio to nuno felt a color coordinated, large, carry-all complete with felted strap. All levels welcome.

Design your dream bag in felt! Be it a backpack, clutch, or shoulder satchel, your custom vessel will be a conversation piece and perfect for walkabouts and travel. Design your bag by planning size, color, layout, straps, pockets, and closure. Learn the techniques for wet felting with a resist. Discuss reinforcements, color blending, embellishments, and repairs. All levels welcome, but size and features will be determined according to previous felt making experience.
