OptiVISORs are also available in the studio, if needed. -Safety glasses. (If you wear glasses, try 3M Eyeglass Protectors, #47030, that fit comfortably over glasses -- available at building-supply stores.) Safety glasses are also available in the studio, if needed. -A particle dust mask (3M #8233 or rated equivalent) is advised when using the polisher in the Jewelry studio. The mask can be purchased from Rio Grande, item #201-654 (1-800-545-6566 or www.riogrande.com). You may also find them at your local hardware store. -Fine-point, black Sharpie pen -Notebook and pen -Something to tie your hair back with, if applicable -Apron or old clothes, recommended -Non-flammable clothing and close-toed shoes, recommended NOTE: The fluctuating cost of metals and glass used in this class may result in changes to the estimated materials fees at the time the class is run.

Instructor Materials: Instructor will provide glass, lead came, solder, flux, putty, patina, chain for hanging.

Description

Design and create a beautiful stained glass panel–up to 12 by 24-inches–for your home using the ancient technique of lead came. Practice on a small panel, then fabricate your own unique piece from start to finish, from choosing a design, to preparing and cutting the glass and lead came, to soldering the came to form the panel. This class is perfect for those who enjoy stained glass and are looking to try something new. All levels welcome; moderate hand strength needed. $

Student Materials: Please bring the following: - Closed-toe shoes (no sandals in class) - Safety glasses - A particle dust mask (advised when using the polisher and grinder) - Notepad and pencil - Fine-point, black Sharpie marker - Calculator - Hot glue gun & hot glue sticks (if you have and can bring) - X-acto knife & blades (if your travel method allows) - Old towel or rags - Any sentimental objects you may wish to place in scope cell -- optional (shells, wire, beads, jewelry, etc.) - Any 8.5 x 12 decorated paper or photos you may want to use Instructor will provide materials and supplies needed for the class at the cost below. The Folk School has all the basic tools needed. Estimated Materials Fee: There will be a $25 fee to cover basic supplies: copper foil, solder, clear glass, scrap dichroic, flux, glycerin, glue, tape, and other sundry items. In addition, expect to spend $85-$275 for additional glass, mirrors, optical lenses, brass rods and tubes, depending on the number and type of projects you make.
