School Fee & Materials: FOLK SCHOOL FEE: $10 Re: Green wood -- Logs will be 10" to 12" in diameter by 6 ft. long. We do not carry anything larger. Diameters of 6" to 8" can be had, but should be requested 4 weeks before class. Wood variety includes maple, cherry, sassafras, sourwood, sycamore, etc. No Walnut, as many are allergic to the dust. Please tell us how many logs you would require for 8 students. Re: Dry wood -- Only 2x12" poplar is standardly available -- stacked on the floor in the supply room. Some 3x3x30" maple/cherry is available. If you require other dry wood, you will need to bring it and charge a material fee to students. Glue, sandpaper, & finish are provided.

These are available at each turning station, or you may bring your own. - Dust masks are available in the studio -- or if you prefer, bring your own dust shield. - Ear plugs are also available in the studio -- or bring your own hearing protection of choice. TOOLS: Each turning station has a PowerMatic 3520C lathe, large/small chucks, and all necessary lathe equipment. Tool rolls are available and contain 9 tools: roughing gouge, 3/8" & 1/2" spindle/bowl gouges, scraper, parting tool, skew, and bedan. If you prefer, you may bring your own. (Label all personal tools with your name or initials.)
School Fee & Materials: FOLK SCHOOL FEE: $100 12" diameter or larger fresh cut green wood logs. For 10" diameter X 5" thick blanks without flaws in them. 10" - 12" diameter fresh cut green wood logs for natural edge. 12" diameter X 2" thick dry light in color for platter blanks. We will be putting color on these platters with air brush and green poplar makes it difficult for the color to show.

Whether you’re a beginning woodturner or have some experience (perhaps it’s been a while), hone your woodturning skills at your own pace. After covering tools and safety, jump in and start turning basic bowls eventually progressing to natural-edge bowls. Platters, boxes, and an introduction to surface decoration will follow. You will be amazed at the progress you can make in a week! $
