Food connects us with events, cultures, friends, and family like nothing else. In this journaling class, document your food memories by way of prompts, flavors, and recipes. Some hands-on cooking will be incorporated for inspiration. Techniques such as memory mapping and collage may also be used. Return home with a food journaling routine.

How do we hear and follow the call of our own stories–their flight and fancy, fact and truth, memory and invention? Learn to write freely and fully, with curiosity and a sense of adventure. Explore any/all genres through prompts, share our work aloud, and discuss how to keep it going at home. One-on-one time with the instructor included. Whether it’s the death of a loved one (pets included), the end of a relationship, an unexpected move, or the release of a lifelong dream, we live in the aftermath of loss. Maybe we love others more. Maybe we protect ourselves more. Every path is different. Explore your grief through writing prompts and conversations while connecting with others who are doing the same. All levels welcome.

Experiment with short memoir or essay in the tradition of authors such as Dinty Moore, Abigail Thomas, and Sonja Livingston. This form uses the fluidity of prose as its structure and the imagery and compression of poetry as its engine. Explore the power of a well-wrought sentence and the turn of a tale. Concentrate on pieces from 25 to 2,000 words to tell a single, true story. All levels welcome.

Create mandala patterns in cloisonné enamel using transparent and opaque colors. Compose concentric designs, traditional or contemporary, work on 3-inch copper plates using silver cloisonné wire and silver foil. You may work on jewelry-scale objects if you choose. Also, accompany your making time with reading and writing haiku poems. All levels welcome. $
